The Knob Job
ABOUT

Why Knobs?
In our world of touch-screen devices of smooth glass and metal, the humble knob has fallen out of favor. Once a means of great control, knobs have given way to touches, swipes, and pinches.
I have always been fascinated by the control provided by knobs. I was lucky enough to grow up where I could find surplus aerospace parts. I would buy junk panels by the pound just to harvest the knobs. I would incorporate these into electronic projects that were not complicated but would give me a chance to twiddle.
Nothing beats a knob for rapid positioning and tactile feedback. Exploring the curves and crevices, you find yourself holding one for longer than intended.
I had a vision to scale these knobs into small sculptures in cast resin in endless colors. No two ever come out the same, making each piece unique. The feel of this kind of resin is hard to explain and must be experienced. It is reminiscent of unpacking a piece of hardware and enjoying the feel of it before even plugging it in. These knobs are meant to be held.
